MR. BRYAN’S RECITAL.

At Mr. Gordon Bryan’s recital at the Girls’!College Assembly Hall to be held this evening at 8 o’clock, the pianist iso selecting his programme from representative composers of the classical, British French, Russian and Polish schools. It is interesting to note that the Evening Post had the following comment to make on the playing of this outstanding artist in Wellington recently:—The outstanding item was the Paderewski piano concerto played by Mr. Gordon Bryan. In my opinion, no such consummate pianoforte playing has been heard in this city since Madame Carreno was here, two decades ago. I will go even further, and declare that Mr. Bryan’s performance lost nothing in comparison with the rendering of the concerto with the illustrious composer, when it was my privilege to hear in his work on its initial production in London. Perfect beauty of tone and expression, combined with an effortless mastery of technical resources were the predominant features in this unforgetable achievement. England has found reason to feel proud of producing an artist of such calibre as Mr. Jordan Bryan. The performance of the concerto heard on Saturday nig*ht, if similarly given in any big European city, B'ould undoubtedly have provoked a furore from audiences quick to recognise. outstanding genius; and I am ifraid it will be a long time before we bear anything as brilliant.”
