BREAK FOR WEEK END LENGHTY SITTINGS. MEASURES BEFORE THE HOUSE. WELLINGTON, Sept. 26. The week-end is providing a welcome break for members of the new Ministry, who have spent many long hours in deliberation since their assumption of the Treasury Benches on Tuesday night last. A late sitting of Cabinet on Friday night was followed by a meeting on Saturday, which lasted for two hours and a-half, and it is understood that portion of this time was de voted to conferences with Nir. W. D. Hunt, the well-known Wellington commercial man, who was chairman of tho Committee on Unemployment appointed during the Coates regime, and also Mr. A. E. Fowler,- formerly Commissioner of Taxes, who w’as a member of the Commission which inquired into cases of hardship arising out oi the operation of the super land-tax. It is stated that Cabinet has already conferred with the present Commissioner of Taxes (Nir. E. J. R. Cummings) and the Secretary to the Treasury (Mr. A. D. Park). Interviewed by the Evening Post on Saturday afternoon, the Primo Minister (the Right Hon. G. W. Forbes) said that up. to the present Cabinet had been concerned with proposals to overcome the financial difficulties of the country, and all the evidence placed before the Inter-party Committee had been available to Nfinistcrs. Cabinet had not yet had time to consider its legislative programme. Questioned regarding the fate of measures already before the House, Mr. Forbes said he took it that those Bills which had already received a measure of consideration w’ould be gone on with. He referred particularly to the Transport Licensing Bill and the Trading Coupons Bills, both of which had been before Select Committees. Asked about the Broadcasting Bill, the Prime Minister said the future of that measure had not yet been considered.
