Rowing Popular. Judging by the early activity among the three Wanganui rowing clubs there appears to be an advance in popularity in this branch of sport. Yesterday morning the scene, at one stage, almost rivalled the activity which is to be seen during the height of the season. The Union Boat Club is to hold its 54th annual meeting to-night, which will complete the annual meetings of the rowing clubs. Since the Wanganui Technical College ha. taken up rowing, several of the lads have improved rapidly and give promise of developing into first-class oarsmen. Road Belay Race. Arrangements are now being made by the Wanganui Harrier Club to hold a road race from Marton to Wanganui on Labour Day. Three teams are to be entered by the Wanganui Club itself, while two teams from the Olympic Club, Wellington, have signified their intention of competing. It if expected that the New I’lyinouth Club and the Masterton Chib may also enter a team. The distance from Marton to Wanganui, which is 23 miles, will bo covered by the members of the teams, con sisting of live runners each, in laps of five and six miles. This is tho first occasion on which a race of this nature and distance has been held by the Wanganui Harrier Club, and it. is expected that it will evoke much interest. The finish will be staged in tho city and medals will be donated to the individual members of the first two teams to reach Wanganui.
