Mrs. E. M. Stevens, who has been the guest of Mrs. Stewart, of Wellington, has returned to Kakaramea. Miss I. L. Hay and Miss G. Wylie, of Wanganui, are visiting Wellington, and are guests at Hotel St. George. Sister Janette Falconer, who has been spending some time in the Taranaki district, will revisit Wanganui and arrives early this week. Sh will be the speaker at the Women’s Division social afternoon to be held on Wednesday afternoon in the Victoria League Rooms. Lady Sybell Lygon, the second of Earl Beauchamp’s charming daughters, is the latest recruit to the business world. She is acting as receptionist in the Hon. Mrs. Freddie Cripp’s hairdressing establishment in Bond Street. Lady Sibel is popular among the younger members of London society and is in much demand as a bridesmaid. During her absence she attended the lectures of the British Drama League and spent the last 10 months studying French in Paris, obtaining the. diploma superieur de I’Alliance Francaise. She also devoted considerable time to travel in Germany and Belgium. She intends resuming her teaching at the Chilton St. James’ School, Lower Hutt. Miss A. V. Hay, honorary secretary of the Auckland Girls’ Athletic Association, and president of the Federation of University Women of New Zealand. was a passenger by the Aorangi for Sydney last week. She is a delegate to the Conference of the Institute of Pacific Relations, which is being held at dangphow, China. She is one of the delegates to represent New Zealand. Mrs. M. M. Griffin, of Raetihi, King Country, is visiting Europe on a holiday trip. She has already spent some time motoring in Jersey, England, and Scotland, and is now on the Continent, where her tour will include Denmark, Holland, Germany, Switzerland, Belgium and France. Mrs. Griffin will return to England about the second week in August (writes a correspondent on July 15) and will then go to Ireland. On her way to New Zealand Mrs. Griffin will visit Jerusalem, and will then go on to Bombay, spending a month in India. She will return to the Dominion via Sydney. ENGAGEMENTS. The engagement is announced of Miss M. Ward, of Wanganui, to Mr. L. Bell, of Palmerston North. The engagement is announced of Laura Gertrude, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. H.
