The Wanganui Central branch of the W.C.T.U. held its monthly meeting on August 6, Mrs Page, president, presiding over a fair attendance. Votes of sympathy were passed to Mesdames McKinnon and Shukqr. Arrangements were made re sending a delegate to the District Convention to be held at Raetihi on September 2. Members were thanked for their gifts and services given in connection with the united “shop day” effort. It was stated that 400 pamphlets for propaganda work had been ordered. The fact for the day was that petrol is perilous when alcohol is at the wheel. The Rev. Page addressed the meeting on the drink evil and urged all temI perance people to stand fast at the poll this year. One new member was J initiated into the union.
