HAWKE’S BAY JOCKEY CLUB
COMMITTEE'S ANNUAL REPORT I lollowing is the annual report of the ! Hawke's Bay Jockey Club for the year | ended July 31:— . “ lour committee ha s pleasure in presenting the annual balance-sheet, and. regrets to record the loss of £755, or which adverse conditions have been responsible. Throughout New Zealand a serious falling off of revenue has resulted in many clubs facing a greater loss, and an almost equally difficult position. The balance sheet shows results of five days- racing on our own course as against seven last year. 4 ‘The disaster of February 3 caused serious damage, as you are probably aware, to our main and stewards’
• stands. Ihe former has been temporarily repaired, but a large expenditure will be required before they can be fully restored. ‘•The autumn meeting (one day) was held at Trentham by the generous permission of the Wellington Racing Club, to whom we are deeply indebted, and the satisfactory results both of the conduct of the meeting and the financial profit accruing was due to that club’s consideration, and the supervision of its secretary, Mr Griffiths, and his staff. “We deeply regret to record the loss of the following members: Mr J. H. Colebourne, a steward for many years, and a past president, Messrs B. Chambers, T. 11. Gill, J. A. Ross, F. G. Smith, M. H. Strachan. “Officials and committee nominated for the ensuing year do not exceed the requisite number, so an election is not ! necessary. ’’
