DAMAGE TO POWER LINE
QUESTION OF LIABIL’TY I’ALMEILSTON N., Aug. 12. At yesterday's meeting of the Kairanga County Council a letter was received from the Manavvatu-Oroua Bower Board advising that any person doing- any work that might 'interfere with a power line was liable to a penalty' of £2O and stating that the collapse of the Middle Aorangi Road line was being referred to the board. A later letter stated that it had been considered that the council should bear the cost of restoring the service, viz., £27 15s. The chairman (Cr. Jos. Batchclar) commented that the two bodies had always worked together very harmoniously, and there had been times when the roads had been cut up by the Power Board without protest by the council. Mr Smail mentioned that in the present instance it had been evident that at some time the struts had been removed and the earth round the poles disturbed. When the poles had been blown down during the gules a grave danger had been presented for the line was a 3000 volt one and human life might have been involved. A general instruction had since been sent out to all local bodies within the board’sa It was decided to leave the matter in Mr Small’s hands.
