BULLS

FOOTBALL. Bulls and Athletic seniors will meet on Bulls Domain on Saturday. An effort is also being made to arrange » game between Bulls fourths and a mix cd team from Sanson. A good number of local enthusiast* witnessed the junior representative match at Sanson on Wednesday between Rangitikei and Te Kawau, and the showing of the former fifteen was very disappointing. Having the greater share in handling of the ball, Rangi tikei backs should have done better, but opportunities appeared to be thrown away through faulty passing. Rangitikei forwards played well, and the Bulls men, Bromley and Crosland showed out in many attacking movements. For Rangitikei it may be said, however, that Wednesday’s team was almost entirely different to the side which played against Taihape, only one player participating in both representative matches. RANGITIKEI GOLF CLUB. A match will be played at Bulls this afternoon between ladies of Rangitikei and Feilding Golf Clubs. On Saturday the final qualifying round for the Alen’s Championship of the Rangitikei Club will bo played. GENERAL NEWS. Tho annual general meeting of the Rangitikei Dairy Coy. will be held tomorrow, commencing at 10.30 a.m. The business includes the reception of tin report and balance sheet, and general, and interest will be taken in the result of the ballot for three members on the directorate. A further payment of 2d per lb. butter-fat will give suppliers a bonus of about £B,OOO. Tho dangerous state of Bulls bridge has been frequently pointed out in these colums, but little appears to have been done to put the decking of the structure in order. On Wednesday afternoon several bad patches were noticeable, causing motorists to proceed carefully, and now delay in remedying same cannot be attributed to wet weather, it. is expected that the Counties concerned will attend to such an urgent matter. Speaking at a recent , meeting of the Alanawatu County Council Cr. Perrett said that the state of the bridge was a discredit, and added that perhaps the Af.C.C. was in a measure responsible, notwithstanding the fact that it had frequently made representations to the Rangitik"i County Council for repairs to be carried out. The condition of tho decking at present made it imperative that repairs be put in hand at once. It was decided to make a request on these lines to the Rangitikei County Council. There will be a sitting of the Court in Bulls on Saturday. Air W. T. Bailey, of Stanway, has been appointed herd tester in the Rongotea and Bulls districts. RANGITIKEI RACINCv CLUB. The annual report for the year ending July 31, 1931, to lie presented at the annual general meeting of the Ran gitikei Racing Club on Aug. 28, reads as follows: Your committee on this occasion can hardly say it gives them pleasure in submitting the annual statement of accounts as the year’s operations show a substantial loss. The prevailing depression has had a disastrous effect on rac ing clubs generally, and the position is typical of the financial condition of racing clubs throughout the Dominion. Although your committee has drastically economised during the past year the balance sheet shows that after writing off the sum of £257 10s 5d depreciation there is a net debit balance of £697 17s Id. The overdraft has been increased from £2287 to £2780. The future is very obscure and difficult to forecast and it is very evident that great care will have to be exercised in guiding the destinies of the club in the coming year. We regret to record the death of two old and valued members of the club, Afpssrs E. H. Levett and W. S. Penny. The late Air Levett was the oldest member of the club and had given it yeoman service in his day. The late Air Penny had served as a steward and commit teeonan for many vears and his valuable services were highly appreciated; his place will be hard to fill. Our hearty thanks are due to Air R. H. Afeade, hon veterinary surgeon to the club. A special general meeting of the club will be held on Friday, August 28, 1931, at 8 p.m. to consider two notices of motion in regard to suggested alteration s to the rules. The low price of our primary products is again reflected in our farm rc count, the net profit being £62 16s. Our thanks are due to the farm committee: Afessrs XVhisker, Wilson and Tricker, for their good work during the year. THE PICTURES. Zane Grey’s Western story “The Light of Western Stars” will be exhibited at Bulls on Saturday night, and with Richard Arlen and Alary Brian in the leading roles, picture patrons are promised a great treat. Richard Arlen has a fine singing voice, in keeping with the adventuresome bracado of tho plainsmen, and appeared with Mary Brian in “The X’irginia.” The sup porting cast includes Harry Green, fun ny man of “The Kibitzer,” Fred Koh ler and Rog. Toomey.
