DELIGHTFUL CARD PARTY

| Mrs VV. J. Btone and Mrs J. C. Twomey were joint hostesses at a most I i successful card party held at the former’s residence, 142 St. Hill {Street, on ( Wednesday evening, in aid of the j 4 Aramoho I’luiiket baby (Ronald Wheti ton). Despite the inclement weather a large . i number of guests assembled, 16 tables oeing in play. Tables were set in the .j sitting and dining rooms, which were gaily decorated lor the occasion with s | spring flowers, kewpics and paper festoons, the predominating colour scheme being in old gold—the candidate's r i colours. Au added touch of colour was lent by the delightfully quaint sweet baskets (the work of Miss Mabel McBrearty, which were set on each table. At the conclusion of play, prizes lor which were won by Mrs Purnell, Miss 3 Nan Grainger and Messrs D. Dustin and ] A. D. Smith, a dainty supper was served. The picture competition was won by Mrs C. R. White. Mrs Stone received her guests wear-, r ; ing a charming .frock of navy georgette I s; and lace, whilst Mrs Twomey was j gowned in black and white georgette. ' | PLUNKET CANDIDATES s On \\ ednesday a most enjoyable time was spent by about 50 guests at a deafternoon given by Mesdames II L. A. Trussell, Johnstone and Hill, of ? Aramoho, in aid o f the Plunket baby. he party was held at the residence of 11 Mrs Johnston. Spring flowers in gold shades (the colour of the Aramoho candidate) were used to decorate the r drawing and breakfast rooms. The musical portion of the programme was pro-• vided by the Bridges Trio, who with . then- singing and playing added much I to the. success of the function. During the afternoon various compe- : tit ions were played. A handsome salad r bowl was donated by Mrs Mahoney for the No. 1 competition and this was won j by Mrs lizard. The second competition .. was won by Mrs Purnell.
