WAIRARAPA LAKE
1 SUCCESSFUL DRAINAGE ■ ELECTRICALLY-DRIVEN PUMPS Considerable success is being j achieved with the use of elcctrically- | driven pumps for drainage purposes <>n | lands adjoining the Wairarapa Lake. I Mr J. C. Bidwill, of Pihautea, has inI stalled an automatic self-starting pump i which has a capacity of 4000 gallons | a minute. So successful has this pump i been that on an area where some of • the best duck shooting was obtainable j a year or two ago is now growing a j splendid crop of turnips, while graz- •’ ing is also provided for about a thouI sand sheep. ■ Messrs J. C. Bidwill and AV. E. Bidi will, in conjunction, have ordered two j further pumps, one with a capacity of 1 4000 gallons a minute and the other I 8000 gal'ons a minute. These are to »be installed for further reclamation purposes. It is stated that other property owners in the vicinity of the lake are watching the results of these pumping operations with the keenest interest, and intend installing pumps themselves if the success anticipated is achieved. *
