GALE IN CANTERBURY
VELOCITY OF 63 MILES AN HOUR [ Per Press Association. ] ’’ CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 12. A fierce nor’-west gale is raging in v Canterbury to-day, attaining a velocity of 63 miles an hour. r MAN SEVERELY INJURED CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 12. T. Low, of Rangiora, a builder’s labourer, has been admitted to hospital with severe internal injuries caused by a. fall due to the gale blowing over a ladder on which he was working. TELEGRAPH WIRES DOWN V PROBLEM AT THE TROTS ii (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. Aug. 12. The gale brought down telegraph wires near Amberley, also south of Kaikoura and near Sockburn, probably due to falling trees. Gangs are now repairing the damage. Many sheds were unroofed in and around the city. Conditions at the trots for p. time were indescribable, it being impossible to walk against the gale. Hats were blown in all directions. Before the first race it was impossible for a time to open the shutters of the outside totalisator for . fear of damage.
