Murrell v. O’Keefe. O’Callaghan v. Nicholls. Temporary Local Rules. Owing to the softness of the fair-

ways and greens it has been necessary to make two new temporary local rules. Tho yare as under: — 1. A ball in any horse or sheep hoof mark (except in hazards) may be lilted and dropped once directly behind the original lie and not nearer the hole without penalty. 2. A ball lying in a hoof mark on Nos. 4, 7 and 8 greens may be lifted and placed within ono alub length not nearer the hole without penalty. These two rules will only be in opera-. tion until further notice. A list of local rules will bo posted in the Club House before the week-end and players are requested to look over them as there have been quite a few misunderstandings since the rules were slightly altered to suit the course improvements. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE The Taihape Chamber of Commerce met on Monday evening when there were present Messrs W. H. Maclean (chairman), H. M. MacCallum,, A. B. Fannin. W. J{. ■Jicholls, JI. L. ’ Butler, H. I. Christensen and the secretary (Mr F. Sparks). It was resolved that the following remits be forwarded for the consideration of the executive of the Associated Chambers of Commerce: (1) That tho Government be urged to provide for more frequent valuations of boroughs and counties. (2) That in view of the widespread extension of th. hire purchase system to articles of luxury, tending to undermine sound financial methods, and tempting people to “run” unnecessarily into debt, the Government should be urged to amend the Chattels Transfer Act so that the spirit of the framers of the Act will be achieved in limiting its scope to clearly defined articles of production; also that all documents in connection with the hire purchase system should be registered. Correspondence passing between tho Department of Lands and Survey and the chamber regarding the cost of road maps was read to tho meeting and a brief discussion ensued. Mr Fannin suggested the matter should be referred back to the sub-com-mittee as he had a map which might give the information required by the Chamber. This map only cost 2s fid. The meeting decided to adopt Mr Fannin’s suggestion. The president brought up the matter of heaters on the slow trains, stating that heaters were placed on tho train leaving Taihape at 10.10 a.m. and were supposed to retain their heat for the return journey at 5 o’clock in the evening. The speaker declared that more often than not hose heaters were cold before the train left Marton. It was decided that the president ho deputed to wait on the stationmaster regarding the matter. The Associated Chambers of Commerce wrote stating that the dates of the annual conference, which is to take place in Wellington this year will he Thursday and Friday, the 22nd and 23rd of October. All remits must be forwarded not later than August 30.
