THE TOWN BOARD MONTHLY MEETING The ordinary monthly meeting of the ] Hunterville Town Board was held on • Tuesday night, Cr W. H. Bo wick presiding. Crs G. B. Gregory, R. A. Gor- < don, W. O ’Brien, W. J. Whyte,J. C. Berry and R. K. Simpson were’ also present. : It was decided to .enter a protest against sections 68 and 69 of the Transport Bill, as these sections interfered with municipal control. Accounts amounting to £72 Ils 8d i were passed for payment, leaving a de- ; bit balance of £ll3B 18s 9d in the j general account. Cr. Gregory pointed . out that refunds amounting to £lOO j were due to the board, including the ( last £5O of the conversion loan which has ben placed. He said the board < could congratulate itself on the terms 1 of the conversion loan. A saving on ( what might have been of i per cent. ; on interest, i per cent, on sinking fund i and 4 per cent, on brokerage had been : made, thus savins £5OO to £lOOO to the i ratepayers over the period of the loan, i The debit balances to be made up on i the old loans meant that £2OO had to be found and this made general funds i short for this year.’ All loans were now 01 f-extinguish- j ing. The old loans had only a one per i cent, sinking fund, which meant that ■ at the end of the term only a portion ■ of the loan had been paid off. A vote of appreciation of Cr. Gregory’s services in this matter was re- ] corded on the minutes. The foreman reported damage to ’ the sewer line owing to floods in the I Porewa causing the stream to change its course, and the banks falling away ' allowing a drop in the. sewer pipe line. 1 Also that the road at Walker’s Bridge subsided owing to decayed timber giving way and allowing flood waters to f scour out the filling. It was decided to inspect the site * of the damage to the sewer on Tliurs- j day and to ask Mr Mair to again inspect Walker’s Bridge. The board went into committee to J continue the discussion from last meet * ing on the clerk’s salary and on re- f suming it was decided that the ques- ' tion of payment for work done under the Unemployment Act be reviewed in six months’ time when the finances of the board may be in a stronger position. Some discussion took place on the j fact that the lessee had notified firemen < that their attendance was not required f at picture entertainments, and the qnes- , tion was left in the hands of the chair < man to endeavour to arrange matters.
