LOVERS’ TRICK
TO GAIN A DOWRY WARSAW, July 27. The truth of the o.d saying, “Love will find a way,” was il-ustrated at a wedding at Dubno, when a girl duped ner father. A wealthy merchant had bestowed large dowries ou his four ugly daughters, but had not set anything for the fifth, who was noted for her beauty. A poor man fell in love with her, and the couple organised a plot to circumvent her father's refusal to bestow a dowry on her. The suitor then paid his court to the beautiful sister. His attention was ardent and con--1 tinuous, and this so delighted the father that he decided to advance most of the dowry to the bridegroom immediately prior to the wedding. It was arranged that the wedding should take plave at night, and as the bridegroom, with his ugly bride, stood side by side at the altar, the lights in the church suddenly went out. It was, however, decided to continue the ceremony in the darkness. But when the lights were again switched on it was found that the liroom had placed the ring on the finger of the beautiful sister. The marriage has been declared valid.
