General Situation. —A deep depression has been crossing the Dominion to-day. A moderate anti-cyclone has developed over south-eastern Australia. i Forecast.—Winds: Strong northcrlies to gales north of Farewell Spit and Akaroa, but a change to west and south-west advancing from the south. Southerly winds likely to bo general after about 24 hours. Seas (N.Z. waters): Heavy in Cook Strait and Foveaux Straits and on the West Coast of the South Island, elsewhere rather rough to rough. Eastern Tasman Sea: Strong northerly winds to gales, but a change to west and south-west advancing from the west; seas rough. Weather: Unsettled, squally, W’ith rain at times in all districts, snow on the high levels and hail in places. Temperatures becoming cooler.
