APPEAL BY THE P.P.A. OPPOSITION TO GOVERNMENT (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Aug. 10. An appeal to Protestants to oppose the present Government at the coming general election was embodied in the motion carried to-day at the Dominion conference of the Protestant Political Association. Mr L. A. Taylor, of Hawera, presided and members of the executive council and delegates from all parts of New Zealand were present It was stated in a resolution that th* United Party had failed to uphold Imperial and Dominion responsibilities and had neglected and opposed the rights of Protestants. A resolution condemned the Government’s failure to maintain adequate defence and stated that this would place an added burden on Great Britain. It was also stated that the primage duty imposed by the Budget would re suit in decreased preference for Empire goods. Objection was taken to special privi.eges extended to the Roman Catholic Church in the direction of dental clinic* B and exemptions for priests and Mr.rist fathers and brothers from payment of the unemployment levy. A resolution further contained reference to privileges provided for in tJm Nurses and Midwives Registration A-', and to the eulogistic references by Ministers of the Crown to sectarian school- 1 , with a prejudicial effect on the State school system.
