HATRED OF MOTORS
PEDESTRIAN BATTERS CAR. Alleged to have wilfully damaged a motor-car, Alfred Frank Brewer, aged 55, independent, of Shanklin, Isle of Wight, who is said to have “a great aversion to any form of motor traffic,” appeared recently belore the magistrates.
The motorist, Bertram Goddard, stated that he was driving a two-seater car along the cliff path between Sandown and Shanklin at seven miles an hour, and hooted for Brewer to move from 1 the centre of the footpath. As Bnwer refused, he pulled up a few feet behind him. Brewer, he continued, took a pace backwards into the car, which was then stationary, turned round and battered away with absolutely maniacal force on the radiator with his walk-ing-stick. Mr Goddard added that Brewer then danced and shouted, struck him in the face, and at the same time his dog bit him in the thigh. Brewer, who was stated to have been fined previously for damaging motor’bus time-tables and throwing stones at motor-vehicles, was fined £5. He was also ordered to pay £5 10s damages an i £1 costs.
