ALARMING FLOODS
NEW SOUTH WALES LOSSES. SYDNEY 7 , June 25. Messages from the south and southwest indicate growing alarm in many towns, as the flood waters are rising. At Wagga and Junee business is at a standstill and scores of residents awoke to find water swirling through their homes. The waters are pouring from Lake Albert, four miles away, into Wagga. This town is in grave danger, the Murrumbidgee having risen to 29 feet. A flow of twelve feet over the spillway of the Burrenjuck dam is reported and the back waters have overflowed on to surrounding property. At Hay the Murrumbidgee is more than six fret above tho critical mark. Conditions are equally disturbing on the Lachan River. Forbes is safe, but all the low-lying country is covered to a depth of several feet. The main bridge over Adelong Creek was washed away and the main street at Ganmain is under four feet of water. A record flood is expected at Tumut Rain is still falling. Two other people are reported missing and believed drowned in Billabong Creek. Heavy rain continues to fall over most of the flooded areas. The rivers are rising rapidly and the danger to human life and stock is increasing. Residents of inland towns are becoming gravely alarmed. Thousands of people are homeless as the flood waters are surrounding their homes and destroying farm property. The danger is particularly acute at Wagga. The police rescued nine people from house tops. Tho stock loss has been tremendous. Goudagai is inundated, while Urana and Adelong are experiencing the worst floods for 40 years. Th' rivers in North-Western Victoria are still rising and Tallangatta is isolated, the water being feet deep in the main street. Flooded homes are general in many other towns.
