EARLY ONIONS

When an early crop of onions Is desired a small bed or plot of autumn sown plants should be transplanted as soon as the plants have attained a reasonable size. For this crop a soil of a free open nature, and possessing free drainage, should be selected. Well decomposed manure, if procurable, should be worked into the soil. Wood ashes and soot are excellent materials for this crop. Before planting shorten back any straggling roots and tops. Plant only deep enough to cover the roots and press the soil filmly around them.
