PATEA

COURSING. The Patea-Hawera Coursing Club held its annual meeting last Wednesday and yesterday at Plumpton Park, Whenuakura. Wide interest was taken in this sport, of which Patea is a strong centre. There was a good attendance, although the entries were not so good as at last year’s meeting. The course was well-prepared, this adding to the success of the days.

The McKenna Cup, which was held on the first day was won by Messrs Hurley and Willis Eros.’ Glare This was a most popular win the eutry being a local one. This is The more creditable owing to the fact that there were a number of entries from a distance, Waitara, Hawera and other clubs being represented. The Open Stakes created even wider interest, and wheu the finals were run on the final day, supporters were many and ken. The winner proved to be Mj Watts’ Hurly Burly, after a close contest with Mr F. Sheild’s Cashbox.
