OUTRAGE BY RUSSIANS
PRIEST BOUND TO TREE. According to a recent report in the Estonian press a stone wrapped in paper was found in the Petchora district of Estonia, close to the Soviet frontier. The paper appeared to be a letter describing the brutality of the “godless” during Easter in the Soviet village of Korla, near the Soviet-Es-tonian border. Several “godless” persons broke into the church of the village while service was being held and began to brawl. When the priest called on them to be silent or to leave the church they attacked him, tore off his vestments, and dragged him to a wood, where they bound him to a tree and mocked him. The peasants, frightened by the threats of the “godless.” took several hours before regaining sufficient courage to go and free their priest.
