The British United Prqss corre spondent at Runic says that as a result of the Pope’s outspoken reference to spying, the Government is re-drafting its fourth Note in stronger terms. Official feeling is that the l’op<speech has made the position dccidediy more difficult. “It is not only in Russia and Mexico that the Roman Catholic Church is being persecuted,” said Pope Pius when addressing 700 members of the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith, last week. “Far from an attempt. to restore tranquility in Italy, said the Pope, “there are efforts tu maintain a menacing horizon and 9000 Fascists have been called out to pre vent youthful members of the Catholic Actionist Party from meeting, even in silence. “The bishops’ report discloses a hateful intcnsifiction in watching and spying and continual threats, which ar-' disturbing tho life of the community.”
