WILKINS’ SUBMARINE
ARRIVAL AT CORK. TROUBLE ON THE ATLANTIC. Received Juno 23, 5.5 p.m. LONDON, June 22. Sir Hubert Wilkins’ submarine Nau tilus, which was disabled during the Atlantic crossing has arrived at Cork. Previously she was reported to be accompanied by the United States battleship Wyoming. A message .from the Wyoming sent 280 miles from Queenstown said the submarine had stopped owing to fuel oil trouble. The starboard and port motors were damaged, but efforts were being made to restart the port engine. The bridge, periscope and bow tying ring had been smashed away in a gale and the crow were battened down. A further message states that the Nautilus has gone to Plymouth for repairs to the upper works. Sir Hubert Wilkins is determined to continue his voyage via Bergen or Copenhagen. The crew said they had an exceedingly trying time towards the weekend, when they ran short of bread and meat.
Sir Hubert Wilkins expects to be in the Arctic regions in mid-July and at the Pole in August.
