'QUAKES AT HASTINGS
BOTH OF LOCAL ORIGIN. ONE OF ALARMING INTENSITY. I’Per Press Association.] HASTINGS, June 22. T**-o earthquakes of considerable in tensitv were felt at Hastings this morning, one at 3.47 and the other al 7.32. The second was noticeably tin heavier. Both had a jolting rathe; than a swaying motion. The seismograph here shows tha both were probably purely local to tin district. Both tremors, especially th< second, were rather alarming and rattled buildings and their contents tc an alarming degree. The second was comparable with any shakes here excepting the major shakes on February 3 and February 13. The sens have been rough for several days, itoavv rain is now falling stead ily.
