ALPINE ACCIDENT

MAN BADLY INJURED. [ Per Press Association. 1 CHRISTCHURCH, June 22. Through being carried over a precipice on* Avalanche Peak at Arthur’s Pass yesterday, Cedric Hodgson Turner, an employee of the Kaiapoi Woollen Mills, aged 22 years, was badly injured. So far as is known he is suffering from several broken ribs and injuries to his thigh, but the full extent will not be known until the return of the relief pa rty. The accident occurred on practically the same spot, as where two climbers wore injured on the previous Sunday. Up till noon to-day Turner had not. boon brought in owing to the difficult nature of the country, but the rescuers spent all night with him, having taken up a tent, stretcher, and supplies. Search Party Returns. The search party succeeded in get ting back to Arthur’s Pass at 2 o’clock this afternoon. Turner is suffering from several broken ribs, abrasions to stomach, and a wound in the calf of tho right lef. “Everybody has done everything possible for me,” he said.” and the job of carrying me down 4000 feet could not be an easy one ns there were several rock faces to negotiate.’’ Mr Turner, although badly hurt, showed a splendid spirit and endured the rough going weii. He was brought by train to Springfield and thence, by motor ambulance, to Christchurch hospital.
