STATEMENT BY POPE “A MENACING HORIZON.” [By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright] Received June 21, 9.10 p.m. ROME, June 21. “It is not only iu Russia and Mexico that the church is being persecuted,” said the Pope, addressing 700 members of a congregation for the propagation of the Faith. “Far from an attempt to restore tranquility in Italy, there are efforts to maintain a menacing horizon Nine thousand Facists have been called out to prevent youthful members of the Catholic Action Party meeting even in silence. The Bishops’ report discloses a hateful intensification, watching, spying and continual threats which arc disturbing the communities’ life.”
