SATURDAY’S MATCHES MEN'S SENIOR GAMES. STAR ANU HINEMOA WIN. 1 Big scores were registered in both men’s senior hockey matches on Gonvillo I'urk on Saturday. Hinemoa ran through the Wesley defence to win by nine goals to nil, while Star beat Old Boys by six goals to two. Both games were too one-sided to produce any great interest, although the Star-Old Boys' match was the more even of the two. The ground was in good playing condition. Hinemoa and Wesley. At the beginning of the second spell Wesley attacked and had the Hinemoa men back in their circle. A corner gave Mclntyre tho chance to clear. Hughes finished off a rush by Gurney and Russell, and then Mclntyre goaled from a centre by Gurney. McIntyre goaled again bringing the Hinemoa total to eight. Star and Old Boys. Although. Star had the belter of the first half in their match with Old Boys, the second half was more even. Old Boys attacked from the start but were repulsed and it was not long before Star reached the circle for Latham to score. Old Boys rallied and took the ball to the other circle but their shooting was erratic. Le Brun eventually goaled from short range. Star returned and Goddon goaled, making the score: Star 4, Old Boys 1. Mitchell had to keep busy in the latter half of the first spell, bringing off several saves. A penalty corner gave Le Brun a shot at the Star goal but Hasler saved. Tizard added another goal for Star ami shortly afterwards Latham centred to Tizard, but Mitchell saved. Old Boys at this stage were making a better show, although their backs were not as strong as the forwards. Veitch goaled for Old Boys and the final goal was scored by Goddon fqr Star, leaving the score:—Star 6; Old Boys 2. Rev. Goring and Mr A. Spurdie were the referees.
