“LIQUID ENGINE"
WATER AS MEDIUM CHEAP RUNNING COSTS LONDON, June 12. A “liquid engine,” in which the thermo-dynamic medium would be water instead of being gaseus. as iu all heat engines hitherto, was described by Mr J. F. J. Malone, lecturing to the Royal Society of Arts. He claimed that the advantages included the need of less of the medium than lib per horse-power, the ability to use cheap fuels, and freedom from explosive hazards. A liquid engine locomotive would give the same power for half the coal consumption, while a marine engine could generate its power 33 per cent, more cheaply and have bunkers 33 per cent, smaller.
