SCHNEIDER CUP

BRITAIN ONLY COMPETITOR? DENIAL OF THE RUMOUR Received June 17, 10.30 p.m. LONDON, Juno 17. The Daily Telegraph’s aviation expert declares that the rumours that France and Italy are withdrawing from the Schneider Cup contest aro without foundation. Neither tho Aero Club nor the air attaches of France or Italy have heard anything of the suggestion, and the Aero Club denies the report explicitly so far as France is concerned. It was reported yesterday that the Daily Herald’s Paris correspondent declared authoritatively that neither French or Italian airplanes would compete for the Schneider Cup, which would go to Britain by default. The French entry was regarded as a joke, as the only available aeroplanes were built in 1926, and are slow compared with the British ’planes. They also are regarded as dangerous. Italy was unable to complete the new Fiat engines in time for tho race. In these circumstances, Britain would win the Cup outright by simply flying over the course.
