RAILWAYMAN RETIRES

FUNCTION AT EAST TOWN A very pleasant little function was held at noon on Wednesday when the employees of East Town Railway Workshops gathered together to bid farewell to Mr W. Kennedy, who Las retired on superannuation after 35 vears’ scrvjce. The function was presided over by Mr J. J. Scott. Mr W. Mutton, foreman boilermaker. said that Air Kennedy had worked under him for a few years and he made reference to his workmanship and the genial disposition that had made him so popular. Ho wished both Mr and Airs Kennedy long life to enjoy their retirement and presented him with a suit-case and a travelling rug as a token of the esteem in which he was held by his shop mates. Air Mutton’s remarks were heartily endorsed by Alessrs F. Nalder, H. Simmonds, P. Hill, and J. B. Cotterill, all of whom paid tribute to Air Kennedy’s sterling qualities. Air Kennedy, in replying, said that he wished to especially mention the office staff, who had been the most courteous and obliging it had ever been his pleasure to come in contact with. He returned thanks to the men for their good wishes and handsome present, and said he would never forget his happy association with the men at East Town. “Three cheers for Mr and Mrs Kennedy with musical honours concluded the function.”
