THE CIVIC THEATRE. “NO, NO, NANETTE.” “No, No, Nanette,” tho scintillating First National comedy picture filmed partly in colour, opened yesterday for two nights at the Civic "Theatre, and will be finally screened this evening. This exceptionally lavish production was received with enthusiasm by yesterday’s audience which seemed to enjoy every minute of it. Even in this day when picture-goers arc accustomed to the spectacular and tho beautiful, there were more than a few “oil’s” and “ah’s” heard around tho theatre as the gorgeous technicolour scenes were unfolded But tho story is by no means slighted. It is about a good wife who would not spend her millionaire husband’s income. So ho let other women spend it instead—all in a nice and welt intentioned spirit. Ono of his outlets for surplus cash was to finance a musical show written by the sweetheart of his best friend’s daughter. It is a charming, whimsical story and an excellent background for the big numbers which occur on the stage. MARTON OLD BOYS’ DANCE. The Marton Old Boys’ Football Club will hold a dance in tho Druids’ Hail this evening commencing at 8 p.m. Packer’s Orchestra has been engaged to supply the music and novelty dances, streamers and confetti will be added attractions. With good music, floor and supper a pleasant evening’s dancing is assured. FANCY DRESS BALL On Friday evening a children’s fanev dress ball will bo held in the Tutaenni bocial Hall under the auspices of the Upper Tutaenui School Committee. The floor will be reserved for the ehildrwi till 10 o’clock, when dances for adults will be continued. An excellent sun per will be provided by the b.dies and the prices of admission are: Gents 2s. Ladies Is 6d. LADIES’ HOCKEY The Turakina ladies journeyed to Marton and met defeat at the hands of United by four goals to nil. JUNIOR FOOTBALL BENGAL CUP CHANGES HANDS

Old Boys and Athletic juniors met in a competition and Bengal Cup match, Athletic winning an interesting game by six points to five. Old Boys are the leading team in the junior competition and their defeat came as a surprise.
