RETURNED SOLDIERS The monthly meeting of the Ohingaiti branch of the Returned Soldiers’ Association was held on Saturday even ing last, when the president, Air P. J'. Brooks presided over a good attendance of members. The secretary, Mr J. B. McKaight, reported that four new members had been enrolled since the last meeting. The matter of providing a measure of relief for those unemployed returned soldiers who would be affected by the cessation of the Unemployment Board’s schemes, and of other necessitous cases was discussed, and in order to provide funds for the relief of local distress it was decided to hold a function in the near future. After discusison, it was agreed to hold a ball on July 10 next, the proceeds of which to be held by the local association for relief purposes. LADIES’ MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB FINAL OF LYNCH TROPHY The following are the individual scores for the final shoot for the trophy donated by Mr W. Lynch: Miss E. Linton .. .. 35 0—35 Miss T. Burgess .... 27 8—33 Miss N. Thompson .. 22 10—32 Mrs Paget 29 2 31 Mrs L. D. Coleman .. 19 4—23 By consistent shooting, Miss E. Linton annexed the trophy, Returning cards of 34, 34, and 35 for the three shoots. On Friday next the club will com-me-ice a competition for a trophy donated by Mr MacDonald. MOTOR ACCIDENT It is reported that while proceedin'l- - Kangiwahia on Sunday afternoon a car driven by Mr Fagan met a car proceeding to Ohingaiti, which car struck Mr Fagan’s car and knocked it over the bank. No serious injury was suftered by the occupants, who were convoyed to their home by Mr A. C. Morton. It is stated that the offending motorist did not ascertain what damage had been done, but drove on withou 4- stopping. GENERAL NEWS The friends of Miss E. L. Paterson, assistant at the local State school, will regret to learn she is an inmate of the Public Hospital, Wanganui.
