A UNITED EFFORT
pill', meeting convened by His Worship the Mayor, Mr N. G. Armstrong, for the purpose of considering plans for the aiding of the unemployed was a more representative gathering than has been brought together for some time. Every section of the community was well represented, and an earnest interest was made manifest from the start aud was sustained to the finish of the meeting. A representative committee was set up and a subcommittee appointed. The general committee meets again Ibis morning at ten o’clock, when the report of the sub-committee will be presented for consideration. I'lvery effort, therefore, is being exerted to bring the scheme into operation bv the lime that the No. 5 Scheme, closes down. The public will have an opportunity of contributing' cither in cash or in kind to the support of their less fortunate fellows, and when this appeal is made most people will find pleasure in seizing the opportunity which the appeal affords of doing good by stealth. It is to be hoped that the (loveriimeiit will !>" ,ible to advise the committee immediately what plans it has in contemplation for the distribution of meat in Wanganui. This prifnlem bristles with difficulties and it would perhaps be desirable for a representative of the Government to be present ami to join in the conference with the representnitives of the Wanganui Relief Comrnittec and the Master Butchers’ Association wlicn those two bodies come together.
