BIBLE IN SCHOOLS
ARCHBISHOP’S STATEMENT [Per Prehs Association.] THAAIES, June 15. Archbishop Averill, preaching at Thames last night on the Bible-in-Schools, stated that in denying tha children religious instruction the people were robbing God. We professed to be a democratic Christian country, yet in our educational system there was no recognition of God. Opposition in the past to such instruction had come from the Roman Catholics and teachers. The former’s opposition had now been withdrawn and a Bill was coming before the House next session which asked for the inclusion in school hours of religious instruction. In a recent plebiscite it was shown that over 80 per cent, of the parents were in favour of the Bible-in-Schools.
