TE KAWAU RUGBY SUB-UNION The seven-a-side tournament organised by the above sub-union provided a very successful afternoon’s sport, al though the weather was so unfavourable in the morning. The absence of the Taihape team, which had sent in a nomination was a disappointment/ as it was expected they would extend the crack Oroua Downs combination. Sandoii School won the schools’ eompc--1.1 mu fairly easily. Foxton. B were successful in the junior, and Oroua .Downs had a comfortable win in the senior. Secretary F. W. Tostevin had the organisation running smoothly and was ably assisted by Messrs H. J. Fagan, S. Moffatt, N. Scott and S. Reeve. Thanks arc due to the following referees for their assistance: —Messrs E. Spry, S. Moffatt, J. B. Bennett, C. Sanson and S. Reeve. Detailed results were as follows: — Schools Oroua Downs A 10, Kangiotu 0. Rongotea 25, Oroua Downs B 0. Semi final.—Sandon 11, Oroua Downs A 0. Final.—Sandon 13, Rongotea 0. The Sandon boys were too good for their opponents; E. Forbes scored a try and two were added by C. Mullin. L. Andrew converted two of them. Junior Oroua Downs B 6, Rongotea B 3. Rongotea A 3, Hui Mai A 0. Hui Mai B won from Awahuri B by default. Foxton B 13, Awahuri A 0. Second Round. —Rongotea A 11, Oroua Downs B 0. Foxton B 12, Hui Mai B 0. Semi-final.—Oroua Downs A 3, Rongotea 0. Final.—Foxton B 6, Oroua Downs A 0. This game provided a fast, even game, but the winners were a little too fast for the Downs team. Senior Oroua Downs B won from Hui Mai B by default, Hui Mai A 3, Rongotea A 0. Oroua Downs A won from Taihape by default. Second Round.—Oroua Downs B won from Awahuri by default. Oroua Downs A 9, Hui Mai O 0. Final.—Oroua Downs A 9, Oroua Downs B 3. The Oroua Downs B team were left to contest the final with their clubmates through having two defaults. The game was fast and fairly even, but the A team carried two many guns.
