Mr and Mrs W. Hampton, or Wera, are guests of Mrs H. Page, Gonville. Captain G. Buckley, ex conductor of the Queen Alexandra Band, visited old friends at the Rotary Club luncheon yesterday. Air A. W. Croskcry, of Wellington, [(resident of the New Zealand Homing JPigeon Federation, is on a brief visit to Wanganui. Messrs R. Weddcrspoon, A. E. Rankin, and H. C. Jenkins, were the guests of the Wanganui Rotary Club at their weekly luncheon held yesterday. Among the guests at Foster’s Hotel are: Mr C. <'. Davies (Dunedin), Mr Cuthbertson ami Mr Haggart (Wellington), Air R. W. Wilthamp (Wisconsin, U.S.A.), Air W. Fuller (Auckland), Air A. Alexander (New Plymouth), and All R. W. Packhurst (Sydney). Air Robert G. Porter, formerly manager of the Palmerston North branch of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., and at present in charge of the stock and land department at Wanganui, has received notice of his appointment to the position of manager for Taranaki. Air Porter leaves Wanganui to take up his new duties at Hawera on June 23. At the quarterly meeting of the Wan ganui Fire Board yesterday Air A. E. Halligan was unanimously elected to the position of chairman. A motion was passed eulogising the work oi Messrs G. Spriggens and W. J. Rogers during their period of service on the board Both the ex-chairman, Air Spriggens, and the present chairman were members of the old Volunteer Eire Brigade, and each also served on the board as a member before being elected chairman.

Air W. B. Sutch addressed tho Wanganui Rotary Club at their weekly luncheon yesterday. His subject was “Some (Social Consequences of Russian Communism.” Air Butch, who is teaching at the Wanganui Technical College, was recently offered a University Fellowship by the University Council of the Columbia University, New York, in view of his work in the New Zealand economic field. Air Butch is to leave New Zealand for the University in September.

The meeting of the Wanganui Harbour Board yesterday was tho last a : which Captain J. White, harjourmatser will attend before his retirement on superannuation. The chairman (Mr J. T. Hogan, ALP.), took the opportunity to convey the board’s expression oi farewell. He said that Captain White had rendered good service. “The march of time,” Air Hogan proceeded, ‘’tails for the retirement of all, sooner or later, and while we regret to part with Captain White, we are nunjtul of the excellent service he has rendered.”

Captain White thanked the board and expressed the hope that when the moles were erected the future ot Wanganui’s port would be a bright one.
