TAIHAPE
PUBLIC LIBRARY The balance sheet of the Public Library for the year ending March 31, 1931, discloses a credit balance of 13s 3d. Twelve months ago the credit balance stood at £6 6s Bd. Receipts for the year totalled £74 17s Bd, made up as follows: Balance on April 1, 1930, £6 6s 8d; subscriptions, £2B 4s; donations. 7s; subsidy from Borough Council, £4O; The expenses for the year amounted to £74 4s sd, of which £52 was paid to the librarian in wages. The number of subscribers to tho library has decreased considerably during recent years, and the amount received in subscriptions for the past year, namely £2B 4s, is anything but satisfactory. It is proposed to re-organise the library with a view to making it more popular. Owing to the present financial position of the library, the committee has no alternative but to dispense with the services of the librarian. The amount thus saved will be expended on the purchase of new books A new Library Committee is to be formed and it is proposed to “run” the library bp voluntary labour. Any person willing to serve on the committee is requested to notify Mr E. Loader as soon as possible. The committee expects to spend £2O on new books during the next fortnight, and hopes for an increase in sub scribers.
