BLIND WORKERS ON THE DOLE
COMPLAINT OF DISMISSALS Bitterness has been expressed because some of the blind workers at * basket factory in London have been dismissed while sighted employees are retained. A man employed by the London Association lor the Blind has been complaining that when trade is slack tha blind are put on the dole. “Much of the work is seasonal, and. it is therefore impossible to keep the men always employed at the Pockham factory,” explained Captain Pollard, an official of the association, in reply} to the complaint. “When trade improves they are taken back. We are bound to keep on a certain number of fully-sighted officials, such as those holding executive positions, and also the autors. ” The view of the workers is that at large sums are subscribed by the public to help the blind it should bo pos« sible for the association to keep thcii blind employees permanently at wor> at a fair rate of remuneration.
