PIGEONS’ WORK IN THE WAR
Another war-time hero, who never harmed anyone, has passed away. Ho was Lightning, tho carrier pigeon who fetched and carried messages for four years at tho naval base at Lowestoft. He was very young to begin, barely of war ago, for ho was only just over 17 when ho passed away full of years and honours.
Lightning was the last but one of the three carrier pigeons that, have survived the war until this year, llupert, who was another, had an unhappy fate, for that brave, old bird was killed by a wandering cat. The last to be left is Old Bill, who for thre® years was an emissary of General Headquarters at Montreuil in France.
