UNEMPLOYED RELIEF

POSITION IN WELLINGTON [ Per Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, Juno 13. Tho Alayor (Afr Hislop) stated today that tho carrying on of tho present city relief works, giving employment to over 1800 men, depends on the continuance of the No. 5 scheme, and if that scheme is to be suspended on June 20, the men will be compelled to apply to tho Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, as the Corporation has no funds available. Tho only possible way by which tho mon could be given work is by the No. 5 scheme. Tho Alayor stresses also that if the No. 5 scheme should be continued some of the Government restrictions should bo removed to enable work reasonably necessary at tho present time to bo undertaken, instead of work which is more or less unnecessary.
