WAVERLEY

EGMONT-WANGANUI HUNT CLUB The field at the meet at “Castlehill” last Saturday was smaller than usual, this no doubt being due to t.hu rough conditions of tlie morning. Throwing off soon after mid-day, in the ninety-acre paddock, difficulty was found by the pack in putting up. Tho scent appeared to be lifting, and no run of any length was had for some time. However, towards the middle of the afternoon, a scent was put up and ‘‘pussy” led the ficid in a long run of about four miles, almost down to the clifftops, where a kill was made. Hero the scent was better, and uno or two short runy were had, although the gullies cut in and spoilt runs of any length. Jumping was excellent during the afternoon mostly over boxthorn which had been very well prepared. Hounds were called in shortly before four o’clock, and members were entertained at afternoon tea at the homestead at ‘ ‘ Castlehill, ’’ where Mr and Mrs G. V. Pearce an<l Mrs Richardson once more gave evidence of their generous hospitality. Before leaving for home, Dr. Simmons, as master, on behalf of the club, thanked their host and hostesses for their hospitality, and Messrs Peaice, Hall, Dwyer, Watt (2), McDonald, Chamberlain, Forbes, Fowler, Hamblyn and Saunderson for the preparation and use of their properties.
