ECONOMIES TOO SEVERE
A CRISIS IN GERMANY GOVERNMENT THREATENED OPPOSITION STRENGTHENED ( By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) Received June 14, 5.5 p.m. BERLIN, June 13. A political crisis is threatened as a result of the People’s Party, after a long and stormy meeting, demanding the early convocation of the Reichstag to revise even the annual emergency decree The Nationalists arc equally insistent on a revision, and will support the People’s Party. A meeting of the Reichstag House Committee is fixed for June 16. the demands are carried, the Government will certainly resign. It is believed that the Socialists hold the key to the situation. They, too, are demanding a convocation if Dr Bruening refuses to alter the provisions of the decree, which arc regarded as oppressive to the workers. The People’s Party, apparently, is aiming at the reorganisation of Cabinet, putting a man more favourable to the industrialists in ..he place of Dr. Curtius, whose contention is that a convocation would lead to increased economic tension. Dr. Bruening has hurried to consult President von Hindenburg, who is holidaying at Neudick. SETTLEMENT EXPECTED DR. BRUENING’B ATTITUDE Received June 14, 11.55 p.m. BERLIN, June 14. It is expected that the German crisis will be satisfactorily solved. Dr Bruening adheres to his decision not to allow the Reichstag to interfere at this critical juncture in world affairs, also refuses to re-construct Cabinet. Nevertheless, he is willing to discuss the possibility of removing-somc of the hardships of the emergency decree as Jong as the financial result is not impaired. He is conferring with the party leaders on the matter.
