HUTT RIVER FLOODED
EROSION IN TAITA GORGE I Per Press Association. | WELLINGTON, June 13. Warm rains on heavy falls of snow on the ranges caused the Hutt River to rise last night, with the result that further erosion took place in the Taita Gorge, on the main road, via Wairarapa, there being now a bare twelve feet at the narrowest part between the edge of the water and a high bluff un the landward side. The protective work which was going on is not badly affected. However, it is in the nature of foundation work, and damage is taking place above it. There is serious danger, however, of another flood severing communication.
