TO-DAY’S FOOTBALL The senior competition will be advanced a further stage to-day when Pirates will play Hautapu, while United will try conclusions with Old Boys. The “star” attraction will be the match between Pirates and Hautapu an 1 much interest is being manifested in the fixture. If the wearers of blue ana black jersey can. secure a victory, they will bo level with Pirates as far as championship points are concerned, anc the competition will have reached a very interesting stage. Hautapu impressed the spectators with their fine display last Saturday and their supporters feel confident that they will be able to account for Pirates to-day. The holders of the championship cup are always extremely hard to beat, and too much notice should not be taken of their defeat last Saturday. Given favourable conditions, the clash between Hautapu and Pirates to-day should be one of the best games of the season. Old Boys and United will meet qn No. 2 field ami in view of the latter’s victory over Pirates last Saturday, the result of tho game will be awaited with more than passing interest. How the Teams Stand. The following table shows the position of the teams in the senior competition:—

In the junior competition the championship points secured by each team are as follows:, Hautapu 8, Utiku 8, Pirates 4, Mangaweka 2, United 0. Junior fixtures have been arranged as follows: Utiku v. Pirates, No. 1 ground at 1-15 p.m. Hautapu v. United No. 2 ground at 1.30 p.m. FARMERS’ BALL The Town Hall was the scene of much gaiety on Thursday evening, being the occasion of the annual ball promoted by the Rangitikci Agricultural and Pastoral Association. Recognised I as one of the chief social events of the year, the function which is known throughout the district as the “Fari niers’ Ball” attracted over 260 pat-' | ions. The hall was tastefully decorated with strings of coloured lights, variegated streamers, and greenery of all descriptions, including many terns. The ball committee, under the direction of Air A. K. Overton, were responsible for the decorations, which reflected groat credit on all concerned. Tho supper room also presented a most artistic appearance, the walls being decorated with greenery, while the tables were adorned with vases of chrysanthemums and autumn tints. The following assisted with the decorating of the supper room; Aiesdamcs A. McColl, J. W. Williams, L. B. H. de Lautour, Alisses Fannin and B. Al. Bicknell, Alessrs Marlow and C. Anderson. Carrington’s Orchestra was in attend--ance, and provided all the latest dance music. Extras were played by Miss Howie (Koeke), Aliss Wright (Ala ngaweka), and Air D. Marsh (Taihape). Alessrs C. Anderson and A. K. Overton acted as M.C.’s. The catering arrangements in connection with the supper were in the capable hands of Airs Al. Derbridge. No less than 265 people partook of supper. The various details of organisation in this connection were supervised by Mrs A. AIcCoIl, assisted by Mrs A. W. Bicknell. The bail committee, under the leadership of Alessrs A. McColl (president of the association), and F. At. Alarlow (secretary), worked hard to ensure the success of the ball, and they have every reason to feel gratified with tho result of their untiring efforts. To all who helped in any way to make the function so successful, both financially and socially, the association is deeply grateful. Half the proceeds from the ball will be devoted to tho Earthquake Relief Fund. (Continued on Page 12).
