FARMERS' UNION
WANGANUI PROVINCE ANNUAL MEETING HELD. The annual meeting of the Wanganui Provincial Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was held yesterday, Air T. Currie presiding. In a resume of the past year s activities Mr Currie said that there had been ]l meetings at which matters of concern to the farmers from rabbits to foot and mouth disease and taxation, had been discussed. He had attended several of the branch annual meetings and was impressed with the splendid way in which they had been attended. Fordell, Okoia and Makirikiri branches had had record attendances, pointing to the great interest which was being taken in the Union's work. Air Currie said that high credit was due to the officers of those branches. A great deal depended upon the chairman and secretary. If they were live men and put their backs into it it was possible to achieve success, though the speaker realised that there were some branches which, no matter who the men at lhe head of them were, would never improve. Mr Currie thought the time had arrived when branches should hold more meetings in the year. There would be no trouble about getting officers of the Department of Agriculture and other Government Departments to lecture. Concluding, the speaker said that the executive meetings held during the year were well attended. The balance-abect disclosed a satisfactory credit. Commenting upon this the honorary treasurer, Air J. R. Franklin, said that he -hoped the same stato of affairs would exist next year. Mr Currie’s resume and the statement of accounts were adopted.
