MANGAWEKA

DEFENCE BIFLE CLUB Continuing the fortnightly handicap aggregate cup shoot, the Mangaweka Defence Rifle Club held their second match at their range at Kawhatau during the week-end. Keen interest is being taken in this competition and sonic very good shooting was witnessed. The scores were as follows:

SHEEP DOG TRIALS The Kawhatau Collie Club, Mangaweka, held their first trial on May 8 and 9 on the property of Mr G. Brainley. Despite cold and unfavourable weather, thanks to a keen and energetic committee and good local support, tho meeting was a great success. Mr F. England, of Ohingaiti, the judge, expressed satisfaction with the work of the dogs 1 s a whole, particular, ly remarking on the work of tho winner of the All Round Class. The catering of tho ladies of the district was carried out very efficiently and was much appreciated. The sheep were kindly lent by Mr Walter Shaw, of Ruahine. Special Prizes.—Class T., Club Gold Modal: H. H. Harris, Brigadier Bill. Mr Albert Anderson’s trophy for best local dog: Ken Deighton’s Smut. Class IL: Mr F. Allen’s gold medal for best local maiden, competitor: R. J, Baird. Class 111., Mr Walter Watson’s gold medal for best local competitor: G. Ferguson. Mr G. Ferguson’s gold modal for best two local maiden dogs run by novice in Class 11. and III.: F. Allen’s Nick and Toss. A very successful Coster dance was ararnged by tho district ladies in conjunction with the Collie Club, and was held at Mangaweka on May 8. The proceeds were donated to the Earthquake Fund. A weight guessing competition was won by Mr Ken Deighton. The weight of the sheep was 981bs live weight. Class 111., Local Farmers’ All-round; total possible points 77.—G. Ferguson’s Mac 51, 1; F. Alien’s Nick 474, 2; G. Ferguson’s Rough 46, 3; W. Brewer’s Mick 444, 4. PERSONALS Miss K. Graham is spending her holidays with her parents, Mr and Mrs M. Graham. Mr R. Green has returned from his holidays. Mr H. Trewby is visiting Mangaweka. Mrs Woods is visiting Mangaweka and is staying with Mrs J. Boys. Mr and Mrs H. Johnston and family are touring.
