DAMAGES AWARDED
BREACH OF PROMISE CASE WEDDING ARRANGEMENTS UPSET (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, May 13. A marriage which did not come off, although complete arrangements had been made, including the sending out of over 100 invitations and tho arrival from Sydney of a bridesmaid, had its sequel in the Supremo Court to-day when Grace Marcia Curran, typist in tho Government employ, claimed £5OO from Charles H. Yates for breach of promise. After hearing evidence whivdi disclosed that the defendant’s mother disapproved of plaintiff, and a difference had developed into a downright quarrel between the man and his fiancee a few days before the wedding, Air A. Free, counsel for defendant, withdrew the defence of a mutual breaking of the engagement. Counsel said that defendant’s repudiation of the weddiffg, obviously had not been accepted by the other party. Judge Reed said that had tho breach
occurred earlier there would have been no case for damages. As it was, however, plaintiff had ft just claim for some conipcnsation. Tie, awarded £2-~>o.
