DUTIES ON WHEAT
THE PROPOSED REDUCTIONS GROWERS PASS RESOLUTION [ >ur Tress Association. J CHRISTCHURCH, May 13. At a meeting of the electoral committee of the New Zealand Wheat Growers’ Co-operative Association, the wheat pool, the following resolutions were carried concerning the proposed reduction of wheat duties: “That this meeting representing the wheatgrowers of the South Island draws the attention of the Government to the disastrous effects of the proposad drastic reduction in the sliding scale of duties on wheat and flour, and points out that the reduction is far in excess of the sacrifice asked from any other section of the community, and urges the Government to adhere to the scale arranged at the recent conference held in Wellington on repre sentatives of the millers, growers, bak ers, members of Parliament and the Prime Minister. “That this meeting respectfully draws the attention of the Prime Alin ister to the fact that the sliding scale of wheat duties as proposed, fully protects the miller, but does not necessarily protect the grower, and urges the necessity for ensuring that the wheatgrower obtains the full benefit, of the duties as intended, and to this eml asks him to make effective the arrange meat entered into at the conference in Wellington by representatives of the millers, to share in the sacrifice to the extent of 10s a ton for flour, and especially to insist on an arrangement be tween the millers and wheatgrowers by which the growers’ interests will be safeguarded.’ ’
