BREACH OF PROMISE
WEDDING ARRANGEMENT UPSET. [ Ter Press Association. ] WELLINGTON, May 13. In the Supreme Court, before Air Justice Reed, a breach of promise action is proceeding in which Grace Mar cia Curran, confidential typistc, who resigned from tho Civil Service to marry, is claiming £5OO from Charles H. Yates, stated to be a butcher, her intended. The story for plaintiff is that, prac tically on the eve of the wedding, af ter more than 100 invitations were out and presentations had been made, defendant broke off the engagement after an altercation which took place when plaintiff asked for an understanding in regard to defendant’s mother, who did not regard her as a suitable match for her son. Tho defence is that the engagement was broken off by mutual consent, and there is a counter-claim for £25. and return of certain chattels, which, however, plaintiff claims were gifts made unconditionally.
