Mr C. C. Bowater. Wanganui, is visiting Dunedin. Mr R. Farley w".s yesterday elected president of the Wanganui Agricultural and Pastoral Association. The Court of Directors of the Royal Humane Socictv of New Zealand have asked Sir Cyril Ward to fill the vacancy on the Court caused by the death of Mr Arthur Morten. Mr 1. S. Cantrell, who has been assistant manager of the National Bank of New Zealand in Auckland since August, .1928, has received notice of his transfer to the general manager’s office of the bank in Wellington. Mr Cantroll will leave for Wellington at the end of this week.

Mr B. A. Weelff, car and waggon inspector of the Railway Department, and stationed at Wanganui, retired on superannuation yesterday after completing over 39 years’ service with the Department. He has held various positions in the mechanical branch of the railways and had been stationed in different parts of New Zealand from Invercargill to Whangarei.

Sister Janette Falconer, who was at one of the Salonica advance casualty clearing station? for two years during the war period and since has been matron of Kaikoura Hospital and as sistant matron of Renwick Children’s Hospital, Sydney, for throe years, is now visiting Wanganui with a view to giving a series of lectures on health and cognate subjects.

A motion of sympathy with the relatives of the late Air C. G. Ross was carried at yesterday’s .annual meeting of the Wanganui Provincial Centre of the Farmers’ Union, those present standing in silence. Air T. Currie referred to Air Ross as a man who was well-known in both business and farming, but whose heart had really been that of a fanner. He had belonged to the Union some few years ago.

Mr H. D. A’ickery. who has been appointed a member of the readjustment committee in connection with the Hawke’s Bay earthquake relief, is an accountant by profession and has been practising in Wellington for the past 22 years. For a number of years he has acted as an examiner in accountancy subjects to the University of New eZaland. He is connected with a number of companies including Metters (N.,), Ltd., B. L. Hart and Co., Ltd., and the Paparoa Coal Co., Ltd. At present Air Vickery is acting for the Government on the committee for tho revision of the Companies’ Act. For ten years he was secretary of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, and he was the first secretary of the New Zealand Associated Chambers of Commerce. Air H. F \on Haast, another member, was born in Christchurch in 1864, a son of Sir Julius von Haast. He was educated at Christ’s College and Canterbury College, and graduated as M.A. in 1886 and LL.B, in 1889. He was a member of the Canterbury College board of governors and he has been chairman of the Victoria College board of governors and he has been ehairman of the Victoria College Council. He is a fellow of the University Senate. Air von Haast was called to the Bar in Lincoln’s Inn. He has been president of lhe Wellington Law Society. His practice in Wellington extends over nearly 30 years.
